Welcome!

I am thrilled that you are here and hope that we will become good friends (or even better friends) as you read along with me through this website.  Get comfortable and read on!

I am a mom, wife, and teacher living in Colorado.  In 2014, I started this blog to help me as I navigated the grieving process and adjusted to being a stay at home mom. I realized that I needed to create to be happy.  In 2017, I decided it was time to add more about my life-- now that I am working (a special education teacher and part time bookseller) as well as, wife, mother, homemaker, and crazy dog lady... This blog is my thinking space and I hope that my experiences will inspire other ideas!

My favorite things are to read, write, watch bad (ok, really bad) TV, knit, bake, craft, refurbish, redecorate, write lesson plans, walk my dogs in the park, host theme parties, and going on the elusive antique hunt with my husband.  Almost a year ago, my hubby challenged me to a craft war.  Yes! One, two, three, four, I declare a craft war!  It began innocently but then became quite competitive.  He is an amazing artist and works in graphic design so he does come up with some amazing things.  I was a bit intimidated but I have something in my back pocket that I can always rely on, my stubbornness.  I can't say that I won the war but I can say that I never gave up.

What else do you need to know about me?

  • I like to write long run on sentences.
  • I love science, history, archeology, and anthropology!
  • I have been knitting since I was nine years old and I always relax when knitting.
  • I am a creator.  I love to make things, games, or activities and I draw inspiration from my friends (this includes you I hope!), the internet, and family.
  • I believe in traditions and love making new family traditions.
  • My father was a storyteller and I will often include a story with my blog posting.
  • I read all the time and while I don't want to critique books (I always feel personally attacked if someone gives a book I love a bad review), I may bring up a book that inspired my creation or sent me on a tangent that eventually lead to a creative idea.
  • My husband and I met while working at a bookstore.
  • I have held many jobs over the years.  I've worked as a florist, a bookseller, a genetic research assistant, a property manager, and a teacher in a K-8 school.

About my family

My husband and I live in Denver Colorado with two wonderful dogs, a cantankerous cat, and our thirteen year old son.  We bought our house in 2009, mostly for its' location and the four car garage.  When my father passed away, I inherited a house full of antiques in Rhode Island and when we sold that house we brought all of the contents to our garage her in Denver.  My husband and I both love living with antiques, but have not yet mastered the art of decluttered living.  We love to add to our various collections which now include Van Briggle pottery, toy soldiers, local art, vintage cameras, and enamelware to name a few.  When we first toured the house that would soon be home, the realtor asked me why we were looking.  M. was with me and about nine years old, he carried a small paper Easter basket with Cadbury eggs in it (we called them dinosaur eggs), I told the realtor that we needed a house with more space because pretty soon these dinosaur eggs would hatch and they would each need their own rooms.  M. and I giggled hysterically and fell in love with the house on the spot.  Since the love affair began, my husband and I have been working hard to make little improvements.  I hope you will enjoy reading about these projects!
